Police have confirmed they have passed a file to the CPS to consider how to proceed with complaints against a taxi driver alleged to have posted racist comments online.

Zaheer Hussain, 41, was arrested on suspicion of religiously aggravated harassment in December after a video of him making seemingly derogatory comments about Christians was posted on social media.

The video, recorded in the Moor Park area, seems to show Hussain jeering and making sexual threats to Muslims who have converted to Christianity.

Hussain, from Blackburn, has since apologised for his comments and surrendered his taxi driver’s licence.

Following extensive investigations, a file has now been passed to a CPS lawyer specialising in hate crime.

The lawyer will advise how to proceed in due course.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: “We are now awaiting legal advice from a senior Crown Prosecution Service lawyer who specialises in Hate Crimes.

“Once that advice is received, a decision will be made on how to proceed with this case.”
