While Huddersfield claimed top spot, Preston made the top ten along with the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Leeds.

Mark Whittle from Preston Business Improvement District said: “It’s no surprise Preston has ranked in the top ten places for a great night out.

“Whether you’re a student or not, Preston’s offer has improved massively over the last few years which has helped encourage people from across Lancashire to come and see what it’s all about.

“Preston has been consistently recognised as one of safest and best nights out in the country and the off campus offer is a really important factor when deciding at which university to study. We’re glad our city can compete with some huge destinations”.

Blog Preston took to Facebook and Twitter to find out where Preston’s students recommend for a night out.

On Twitter, UCLan Students Union got the nod from @stephanielomas, while @ConnorD291 said: “There’s only one answer to this and that’s Warehouse”. @LuteceSaphir added: “Evoque on a Saturday, Blitz after everywhere closes (Blitz ’til six), Tellers if you’re broke.”

On the Facebook What’s On In Preston Facebook group, Oliver Portlock also mentioned the Church Street Wetherspoon: “Twelve Tellers is a staple in any student night out. The increasingly-popular Review Bar is apparently great for Pre Drinks.”

Ben Edwards suggested Baker Street on a Thursday for free entry and 10 per cent off all main line drinks. Lee Johnson mentioned Switch for the official student night on a Monday and the unofficial night on a Friday. Meanwhile Rift Bar got a shout from Joe Williams for Thursday night’s Freak of the Week with 99p drinks and 99p entry.

The top ten student nights out according to I SAW IT FIRST are as follows:

  1. Huddersfield
  2. Derby
  3. Chester
  4. Liverpool
  5. Sheffield
  6. Newcastle
  7. Leeds
  8. Stoke-On-Trent
  9. Preston
  10. Middlesbrough
