Why does my brake pedal touch the floor?
I looked online and found the Ford Edge has over 300 brake problems, some of which match the description of mine. What should I do?Q.
The brake pedal of my 2013 Ford Edge will sometimes go to the floor. After the first time, I had the brake power booster replaced under a recall in late 2016. In 2017, I had the same problem, and they replaced the power booster again. Now, about six months later, the same thing happened, and the dealer tested the car but couldn’t find any problems. I know it is not the master brake cylinder because they would have noticed leakage when they changed the booster. I looked online and found the Ford Edge has over 300 brake problems, some of which match the description of mine. What should I do?
A. The brake booster was replaced due to a tear in the diaphragm, which initially causes a low pedal and worsens to a hard pedal. I’m not convinced the master cylinder is not faulty, but it is possible that the seals are leaking internally and causing the pedal to drop. If you pump the brake pedal and the height comes up, then I believe the master-cylinder is the issue.
