A dating app meet-up ended with an armed robbery in a Boston hotel room — and an arrest, police say

The victim told police a 24-year-old Washington woman pulled out a taser and took cash out of his pockets when they got to her room.

A 24-year-old woman allegedly pulled out a taser and robbed over $100 from a man she connected with through a dating app after the two met inside a downtown Boston hotel.

Selena Rivera-Apodaca, of Kent, Washington, was charged with armed robbery Tuesday after officers responded to a radio call at the Hyatt Regency, 1 Avenue De LaFayette, around 11:50 a.m., Boston police said in a statement.

At the hotel, the victim told authorities he met Rivera-Apodaca via an online app and that they then met up in the building’s lobby before they went back to her room, according to officials.

The man told police they spoke for about 30 minutes there before Rivera-Apodaca allegedly pulled out a taser and held it to him as she went through his pockets, authorities said.

“The victim stated the suspect stole over $100 from him before he was able to run out of the room,” police said.

The man notified hotel security, who ultimately called the police, officials said.

At the scene, officers found Rivera-Apodaca in her room, where she denied knowing the victim and said she had never seen him before, officials said.

“As officers continued to try to ascertain what had actually occurred between the two parties, the suspect became completely uncooperative,” police said. “The suspect eventually started FaceTiming another male before officers located a pink taser on top of the suspect’s luggage. Officers recovered the taser and the suspect was taken into custody.”

Rivera-Apodaca was expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
