Massachusetts man gets prison for attempt at sex with teen

QUINCY, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man has been convicted of trying to buy sex from someone he believed was a 16-year-old girl.

Anthony McCaffrey was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday after being convicted of human trafficking of a child under 18 and engaging in sexual conduct for a fee with a minor.

Police say the 59-year-old Quincy man arranged to meet a 16-year-old girl who agreed to perform a sexual act for $50. The person McCaffrey was communicating with was actually an undercover police officer.

District Attorney Timothy Cruz says the case was the first time his office successfully prosecuted someone under the state’s 2011 human trafficking law.

The law signed by then-Gov. Deval Patrick increased penalties for people who buy sex and treats those who sell it as victims.
