Massachusetts SWAT and K9 teams rescue 2 women from knife-wielding man
HOPEDALE, Mass. (AP) — Authorities say police shot a man with a knife and rescued two women from a Hopedale home.
Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early says 61-year-old Harvey Bennett Hubbard was shot twice in the abdomen Friday night.
Hubbard was in stable condition Saturday at a local hospital. It’s unclear if he’s represented by an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
Early says the women barricaded themselves in a second-story bedroom, climbed out a window and down a Hopedale Fire Department ladder.
He says Hubbard threatened to stab the officers.
Police had responded to the home for a report of an intoxicated, knife-wielding man.
The Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council Swat Team and Massachusetts State Police K9 were called to the scene.
When negotiations broke down, police entered the residence.
