Somerville man drowns during video shoot for potential Senate candidate in Montana

A scuba diver who drowned in Montana on Monday has been identified as a Somerville man, authorities said.Jesse Travers Hubbell, 40, was helping to shoot a promotional video for John Mues, a potential U.S. Senate candidate, according toThe Boston Globe. He was part of a film crew at Canyon Ferry Lake, east of Helena, Montana.Mues and Hubbell were reportedly wearing diving gear and wetsuits. Mues reportedly tried to help Hubbell when something apparently went wrong with his equipment.“John was in the water with him … but was unable to help him,” Capt. Kevin Wright of the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s office told the Globe. “He tried several times.”The water the two were in was about 60 feet deep, the Helena Independent Record reported. It’s unclear if Hubble died because of an equipment malfunction, or if it was hypothermia. Hubble’s body was found Tuesday, and his death has been ruled an accidental drowning.
