Police in Portland, Maine, issued an important public service announcement Monday: “To clear the air: here in Portland, laws still apply even when you’re drinking claws.”

“Claws,” of course, refers to White Claw, the hard seltzer taking the world by storm. The catchphrase that followed the summer drink’s rise to stardom —  “Ain’t no laws when you’re drinking claws” — apparently triggered the message.

In an article Tuesday, Vox’s Rebecca Jennings explained the drink as concisely as possible.

“It’s water with bubbles that also has alcohol in it,” she wrote. “Seltzer has been very popular for a while, and now this is seltzer that gets you drunk.”
