Delayed New Hampshire judicial nomination approved
The Executive Council confirmed Martin Honigberg as a Superior Court judge this week.
CONCORD, N.H. (AP) — A judicial nomination that Republican Gov. Chris Sununu put on hold last month has now been approved.
The Concord Monitor reports that the Executive Council confirmed Martin Honigberg as a Superior Court judge this week. Sununu had nominated Honigberg in June but refused to allow a vote last month after the council rejected his pick for chief justice of the state Supreme Court. While Attorney General Gordon MacDonald had broad support from the legal community, Democrats on the council criticized MacDonald’s lack of experience as a judge and his involvement in conservative politics.
Honigberg previously served as chairman of the Public Utilities Commission. He also worked in private practice, as an assistant attorney general and as counsel to Democratic former Gov. Jeanne Shaheen.
