While Monday started the week off with sun and high temperatures close to 80 for Boston, Tuesday is predicted to bring “widespread significant rainfall” to the region — an inch or more is forecasted for some places. But don’t expect it to last.“Pleasant summer weather is expected much of this work week,” the National Weather Service said. It’s forecasting temperatures in the high 70s to mid 80s for Boston with sun and clouds Wednesday through Friday.

Of the rain, meteorologist Dave Epstein predicted about 0.38 inches for Boston.

“It’s likely everybody receives a quarter of an inch with some places getting an inch+,” he said.

The service predicts rain showers should arrive in Boston around 2 p.m. and will still be in the region around 5 p.m. with the wet weather moving out by 8 p.m. There could be “a few embedded” thunderstorms.

“Brief localized heavy rainfall may result in some ponding of waters on roadways, but major issues are not expected,” the service said.

Terry Eliasen, a meteorologist with WBZ, said he thinks the heaviest rain will arrive “likely by late morning into the afternoon.”

Eric Fisher, also a meteorologist with WBZ, predicts “a nice beach stretch this week.”

Meteorologist Barry Burbank of WBZ said that there could be “a few scattered showers and storms are probable on Thursday.” He also said there aren’t any heat waves forecast yet.
