New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio met up with Red Sox management for lunch at the offices of Goldman Sachs on Wednesday, according to Red Sox officials.
Such a meeting shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise because de Blasio grew up in Cambridge and remains a loyal Red Sox fan, and the Sox were in the Big Apple anyway for their three-game series with the Yankees.
But the New York Post apparently described the powwow as a “secret meeting” because the mayor didn’t have the meeting listed on his public schedule.
Zineb Curran, a spokeswoman for the Red Sox, confirmed that Sox general manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Alex Cora did indeed meet with de Blasio at Goldman Sachs on Wednesday, but there was nothing surreptitious about it.

“Yes, there was a meeting yesterday to share the mission of the Red Sox Foundation that included Red Sox ownership and executives,” Curran said in an e-mail to the Globe. “I don’t believe it was a secret.”
Eric Phillips, a spokesman for the mayor, agreed. “It was not a secret meeting,” he said. “There were no fake noses and mustaches.”
