Commuter rail train strikes unoccupied vehicle in Lincoln

A commuter rail train struck an unoccupied and disabled motor vehicle sitting on the tracks in Lincoln around 11 p.m. Thursday, according to Lincoln police.

No injuries were reported.

The train was operating on the Fitchburg commuter rail line, police said.

“At approximately 11:10 pm, Dispatch received multiple 911 emergency calls reporting a motor vehicle that had become disabled and stuck on the train tracks in the area of the South Great Road and Old Sudbury Road crossings,” police wrote in a Facebook posting.

The car was then hit by the train at the Old Sudbury Road crossing.

The vehicle was removed from the tracks, the road was reopened and normal train service resumed.

The crash is being investigated by MBTA Transit Police, who responded to the scene along with the Lincoln Fire Department and Keolis Commuter Rail personnel.
