SALISBURY — A seal pup is back in the ocean after it was rescued from a town road earlier this week.

The Seacoast Marine Mammal Rescue Team said it responded to calls Wednesday of a gray seal pup in the middle of Beacon Street, near Salisbury Beach.

The organization says the pup, which is likely less than 2 months old, apparently followed a beach access path and wound up on the side street.

Nearby homeowners kept the animal safe from traffic until the rescue team arrived.

Officials say the pup was slightly dehydrated and had a slightly cloudy right eye, but was very feisty when handled. The organization said it administered some fluids to the pup, tagged a flipper, and relocated him to a quiet spot on the beach.
