The slushy snow that fell across the region Monday is expected to freeze overnight, with temperatures plunging into the teens.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny but cooler than normal, with a high around 27. Wind gusts will be as strong as 23 miles per hour.

Snow began Monday morning and fell steadily across Massachusetts through the day, coating southern New England with about 3 to 6 inches.

Boston received about 4 inches, while Marshfield received 6 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Temperatures Tuesday night could drop to 12 degrees, with a high of 31 expected on Wednesday. A small amount of snow could arrive on Wednesday night, following by freezing rain and sleet.
