“Beat LA?” Not so much on Thursday.

Snow may have dusted parts of Southern California, but Los Angeles received something perhaps more rare: an offer of help from one of Boston’s own, even if it was tongue-in-cheek.

In a tweet, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said he spoke with Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh, and indicated that Walsh offered “to send plows if the snow reaches our city.”

A spokesman for Garcetti’s office confirmed the two mayors spoke Thursday, and that, yes, Walsh was joking about sending snow equipment nearly 3,000 miles away.

Walsh’s office did not immediately respond to messages left Thursday night. It was unclear if his offer included duck boats.

Bloomberg reported that some parts of the hilly suburbs surrounding downtown Los Angeles could see as much as three inches of snow overnight. A winter weather advisory was issued for Los Angeles, Ventura, and Santa Barbara counties.
