2 men arrested on gun charges in Roxbury after fleeing police

Two men were arrested on gun charges in Roxbury Tuesday in separate incidents after both ran away from Boston police officers, police said.

Delroy Beckford, 27, of Boston was arrested around 2:20 p.m. at 79 Burrell St. in Roxbury for loitering and then fled into an apartment, Boston police said in a statement.

“Officers on patrol observed Beckford acting suspicious in an area clearly marked ‘No Loitering Police Take Notice.’ When Beckford saw officers, he attempted to reach into a fanny pack before fleeing on foot up the stairs to 79 Burrell Street where he forced open the exterior door with his shoulder,” the statement said.

Officers followed Beckford into the apartment and arrested him, police said. Beckford had two loaded firearms: a Glock 42 .380 firearm and a Taurus .38 Special firearm.

Beckford was set to be arraigned in Roxbury Municipal Court Wednesday on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm on public way, and breaking and entering, police said.

Later on Tuesday, Isa McMurry, 20, of Roxbury was arrested around 7:54 p.m. near 1542 Columbus Ave. Officers allegedly saw that he matched the description of someone who had fired shots by Dimock and Notre Dame streets, police said in another statement.

“As officers approached, McMurry quickly fled on foot while keeping his right arm pinned to the right side of his waist. Officers were able to safely apprehend McMurry and recovered a loaded Glock 9mm with 6 rounds in the magazine,” the statement said.

McMurry was set to be arraigned in Roxbury Municipal Court on charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number, and carrying a loaded firearm.
