PIRATES are set to lock horns with Peterborough and Ipswich when they defend their SGB Premiership crown next year.
The return of the two clubs to the top flight was formally announced following the conclusion of the British Speedway Promoters' Association's AGM today.
They take the places of Leicester and Somerset, who are due to compete in the Championship next year. Rye House pulled out midway through the 2018 season and will not return.
The points limit will remain at 42.5 and race nights will be on a Monday and Thursday, in order to present fans with consistent rider line-ups.
A BSPA statement read: "British speedway achieved tremendous success in 2018 in international and European competitions. The Premiership, Championship and National Development Leagues entertained a growing and more diverse audience by consistently delivering speedway of the highest quality.
"It is clear from the data received from our media partners that British speedway remains fit for purpose as a sports product."
The BSPA, which is to become a limited company from December, is seeking to establish a national supporters' group.
A new Premiership Supporters' Cup is to be introduced with one heat line-up being nominated by fans on social media.
Meanwhile, each top-flight club will stage one round of the British Youth Championship in 2019.
