A BRACKNELL resident has been forced to see a doctor for anxiety after the flooding of her Silva Homes property in Harmans Water left her “in tears several times.”

Shellie Phipps told the News of her distress at being forced to stay in three different hotels with her disabled six-year-old since work began to fix a leak in her property last week.

She said: “It is very difficult - I’m struggling.

“I have called Silva Homes at least three times a day to try sort things out to try make my son feel more comfortable and to try make him feel a little happier and myself happier but they again are just lacking care, which has left me very emotional and very anxious.

“I have been to my doctors as I suffer with anxiety, which I did manage to get over, but now it has fired back up after all these problems with my property and being moved from hotel to hotel.”

Ms Phipps has been living in her Harmans Water property for eight years and in that time she has dealt with a ceiling falling through, continuous mould issues, a leaky boiler and faulty plug sockets.

Since Friday October 12, the toll of moving to three different hotels and having to pick her son up from school has left her emotionally and financially strained.

She said: “I’m paying twenty pounds a day to pick him up.

“They are not understanding. If you haven’t got the money there in the first place what are you supposed to do?

“He has gone to school tired and again very sad.

“He is a disabled 6 year old boy who needs to be settled in one place but instead is being dragged about all these different hotels, he is very unsettled and drained from all of this.

“He has had to put up with all these issues from the beginning with the flat.

“But this situation is leaving me more concerned as he is not even being thought of at all by Silva Homes.

“I am appalled by the lack of care from Silva Homes, they have been extremely rude and have left me in tears several times.”

Silva Homes were contacted by the News and Linda Wells, Executive Director at Silva Homes, said: “A leak occurred at Ms Phipps’ flat which was reported to us on Friday October 12. We attended the same day to fix the leak. Due to the extent of the leak we offered to provide temporary accommodation at a nearby hotel while repairs were carried out. An industrial dehumidifier has also been installed to help with the drying out. We have also provided taxis to help with travel to school. Due to lack of availability of hotel rooms it was necessary to book rooms at different hotels to cover the period required to dry out Ms Phipps’ flat.

“We understand a leak at home is a distressing situation. We have worked hard to repair the leak, provide support and offer alternative temporary accommodation, and will continue to work with Ms Phipps until she is able to return home.”

Silva Homes works closely with Bracknell Forest Council to help people find suitable properties.

The council manages the housing register which people apply to be on if they have a housing need.

Silva Homes accommodates some people on the housing register and is the largest social landlord in the area.

Bracknell Forest Council transferred some of its stock to Silva Homes in 2007 when it was formerly known as Bracknell Forest Homes.
