Winners of the ‘aLottaBottle’ campaign invest funds to benefit local communities

The re3 campaign ‘aLottaBottle’ aimed to increase glass recycling and highlight how important and simple it is to recycle glass bottles and jars.

Over the course of the campaign the re3 partnership recycled 290 tonnes more than in previous years, which is the equivalent to 580,000 wine bottles.

Adrain Clarke, general manager at FCC environment, said: “We are delighted by the enthusiasm of all registered groups and really pleased to present the winners.

“This campaign highlighted the great value of organisations and schools in spreading the positive messages about recycling.

“We truly hope that they will continue to be great ambassadors for glass recycling and the cash prize allows them to accomplish any planned projects to further benefit our communities.”

Schools and organisations that have been declared winners will receive a share of the prize fund to benefit their group or the community.

Spokesmen from the Bracknell Forest Council, Wokingham Borough Council and Reading Borough Council, said: “We hope that all residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham will be inspired by the efforts of their local schools and organisations and remember that all glass bottles and jars are 100% recyclable and can be recycled indefinitely.

“Saving energy, raw materials, and reducing CO2 emissions. It’s very encouraging seeing that more and more of us are using bottle banks on a regular basis and we urge all residents to keep this valuable resource away from household rubbish bins.”

Some of the winners have decided to allocate funds towards eco-initiatives, including Holly Spring School in Bracknell who are planning to purchase character recycling bins.

South Hill Park Pre-School, also in Bracknell is developing a woodwork area and Jennett’s’ Park Community Centre has used the funds to go towards installing a new defibrillator unit at a primary school.
