BRACKNELL Forest councillors have joined forces with park and countryside rangers to plant a total of seven oak trees across the borough.

The idea behind the trees is to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the formation of Bracknell Forest as a borough council.

The borough wide planting initiative has ensured that at least one new tree has been planted in each of the parish and town council locations.

Councillor Iain McCracken executive member for culture, delivery and public protection, said: “Thank you to all my fellow councillors who helped plant trees to commemorate when Bracknell Forest Council first became a unitary authority, on 1 April 1998.

“Our trees, woodlands and hedgerows are a valued resource for the borough, providing social, economic and environmental benefits.

“This makes them an apt choice to mark the fact that our council is still going strong, 21 years later.”

A total of twelve councillors attended the tree plantings, which were all completed on borough land.

An additional tree was planted at Morgan Recreation Ground, which is a Crowthorne Parish Council site.

There is also a tree dedicated especially for the borough, which has been planted in Station Green on Market Street.

To complete the project commemorative plaques will be mounted on timber posts, which have been sustainably sourced from local trees.
