Plan ahead for medical needs over Christmas

Brighton and Hove health bosses are urging residents to plan ahead for Christmas to free up emergency services for those most in need.

Over the festive period most pharmacists and GP surgeries will be closed, so the local NHS is advising residents to plan ahead to order their repeat prescriptions, and make sure they use the right service for their medical needs.

Dr David Supple, Brighton GP and chair of NHS Brighton and Hove CCG, said: “While we want everyone to enjoy Xmas in good health, if you do get ill there are a raft of NHS services there to treat you over the festive period.

“Getting your repeat prescriptions in time for the GP closures, and using the alternative services to hospitals and GPs when appropriate, will free up A&E Departments to provide vital care for life-threatening emergencies, meaning doctors can help those in most need swiftly.”

The Brighton and Hove CCG said the NHS Walk In Centre at Brighton Station is open 8am to 8pm for treatment without appointments over the holidays, and NHS 111 is available all day every day.

A pharmacist can help with flu, offering treatment advice and recommend flu remedies, and give guidance on giving medicines to children.
