Bristol's property market can be a daunting prospect, with homes vanishing from estate agent windows almost as soon as they arrive and many deposits alone being outside the reach of thousands of would-be homeowners.

As demand outstrips supply property prices across parts of the city have soared in recent years, leaving many residents forced to remain in rented properties with dreams of home ownership remaining rather distant.

The available choice of affordable properties may be slim, however each month savvy buyers manage to snap up homes for rather less than the average asking price.

The cheapest property sold in April was Flat 60, within the Anchor Point building in Cathedral Walk, Canon's Marsh, which sold for a modest £60,000 on April 5.

The information for each of the above properties was obtained from the Land Registry, a public record which lists the price paid for every property bought at market value.

The data also includes information indicating whether a property was sold under a power of sale/repossessions, buy-to-lets, and transfers to non-private individuals.

In some cases it can take several weeks for the sale to be registered, which means that data from late April may not be fully accounted for.

As the data relies on buyers, or their solicitors, registering the sale with the Land Registry, mistakes can occasionally occur.

There can be issues with figures having too many digits, or difficulties registering the price of a part-share rather than the cost of the entire property - mistakes which are usually rectified at a later date.
