A man was taken to hospital after being flipped into the air by a hit and run driver in Clifton.

The terrifying collision, which occurred on Stoke Road on Valentine's Day,  was captured on dash cam by a shocked onlooker.

Footage reveals a Honda Civic accelerating past a junction and then hitting a pedestrian who is knocked in the air.

The man hit the pavement, before kind passersby then rush to his aid.

He was then taken to hospital but luckily his injuries were not serious.

An onlooker, who wished not to be named, said: "I saw a gentleman out the corner of my eye fall over. To be honest I thought he tripped on the pavement and didn’t think much of it.

"This morning I thought I would review my dashcam footage of this to see what happened. What I saw shocked me! A vehicle actually struck the gentleman leading him to fall to the ground and the car making off.

"Of course I have reported this to the police! The guy was alright apart from shaken up."

Avon and Somerset Police has now launched an investigation into the crash.

A spokesperson said: "We are investigating a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Stoke Road.

"A Honda Civic failed to stop at the scene. The pedestrian was taken to hospital but thankfully was not seriously injuried.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has dash cam footage should call 101 quoting reference 5219034942."
