A low-flying helicopter has been spotted flying low over south Bristol this morning.

According to the flight tracker website flightradar24, the helicopter took off from Staverton and is from the Specialist Aviation Services.

It's unclear why the helicopter has been circling south Bristol this morning (Thursday, May 28).

But there have been reports across social media over the past few days about an increase in helicopter activity in the skies around the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI).

'Helicopter after helicopter'

Shane Morgan tweeted: "There have been multiple helicopter drop offs at BRI this morning. Fingers crossed that all is well and people are ok. #Bristol."

A resident of the harbourside said she noticed the chopper flying over at around 10.30am today.

"It felt like it was really low today, it was unusually loud. I've actually found myself noticing aircraft more often in general since the lockdown, maybe because there are fewer in the sky so they stand out or because I'm home during the day, but this was even more obvious than usual because it was so loud and constant.

"I could see it was moving in the same pattern, circling over the harbour and city centre, and it went on for quite a long time. I saw it dip down over the city centre a couple of times and wondered whether it was landing or looking for someone."

Pete Badger tweeted: "A lot of helicopter activity over #Bristol today @sas_aviation? Police related @ASPolice?"

Laura Davis also tweeted: "We live near the Bristol BRI & there has been helicopter after helicopter landing on its roof during lockdown.

"We noticed the number tail off a lot in the last couple of weeks and suddenly there is one every 30 minutes again."

Bristol Live has contacted Avon and Somerset Police and the BRI for comment.
