Fire service statement

Here’s a statement from Avon Fire and Rescue Service:

We were called at 15:12 - two crews from Temple and one from Hicksgate are attending.

On arrival crews found one small fire on the first floor and are using a high pressure hose reel and two firefighters in breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.

They are also using a ppv fan to clear smoke from the building.

Crews have rescued one casualty who is conscious and breathing and is being assessed by paramedics.”

Statement from witness

A man has described the moment he saw firefighters running into the smoke-filled flat.

He said: “I was walking up the hill and all these fire engines pulled up and started rushing into the building. It looked like there was smoke coming out of one of the flats on the side of the building, but no (obvious) flames.

“The responding team went up and banged on the door which the smoke was coming out of, but I’m not sure what happened after that. It could be a non-event, but the traffic is quite bad in the area at the minute.”
