A swan held up a bus for more than ten minutes during morning rush-hour in Bristol city centre.

The cygnet was about two-feet tall, long slender neck, kind of orange and black bill. It was a swan.

The stand-off between the FirstBus X39 service to Bath was caught on camera on Redcliffe Bridge at about 7.45am today (February 14).

Passing commuter Zena Clothier stopped to capture the moment on her phone on her way to work.

One photo shows the adolescent swan waddling a few metres in front of the bus while another shows the bird has turned around and is literally facing off with the bus, showing a total disregard for its human counterparts' time.

The swan faces off with the bus

Zena said: "I was cycling to work and wondered why the bus had stopped in the middle of the bridge.

"It took a few seconds to see that a swan was directly in front of it and just stayed there. It started walking and then stopped."

One passer-by tried to tempt the young swan out of the road with a banana, but to no avail.

"The guy on the right of the picture got out a banana to try and tempt it out of the road but it obviously wasn't having it," Zena added.

"It eventually started walking towards the roundabout very slowly with the bus slowly crawling along with some very amused pedestrians. Had to carry on after about ten minutes as I had to get to work."

Previous Hot Fuzz moment

Back in July last year, Avon and Somerset Police officers recreated the famous scene from Hot Fuzz by rescuing a swan from the M5 motorway.

PC Tom and his colleague managed to catch the swan after it was spotted walking along a busy section of the motorway between Burnham-on-Sea and Weston-super-Mare.

With help from Highways England staff, the two officers managed to bundle the bird into their boot and release it in a more convenient - and somewhat less congested - area, away from the M5.
