Bristol City are bracing for a summer battle over Callum O'Dowda, according to national media reports.

The 23-year-old has been in brilliant form for the Robins this season and the club triggered a one-year extension on his deal last month.

Yet, with the winger yet to sign a new contract, the Irish Mirror says the Robins are gearing up for plenty of interest in him during the summer.

The Robins are hopeful of getting the Irishman to agree a new deal by the summer, but the report says his future will be unclear if the club fail in their bid to win promotion this season.

Leeds United were linked with a bid for O'Dowda during January, but instead opted for a move for Swansea's Daniel James instead, in a move that fell through at the last minute.

The Swans are in a similar situation with James that the Robins are in with O'Dowda, but manager Graham Potter has spoken optimistically in the past couple of weeks at the prospect of their star player signing a new deal.

Indeed, the BBC claim that Swansea are ready to hand James a vastly improved deal to keep James in Wales.

The Welsh club hope the winger will sign a new deal, which would reflect his increased squad status and potential.

Should that happen, Leeds could well renew their interest in O'Dowda, whilst reports have said Premier League clubs are also monitoring his situation.

That means the Robins could well be forced to cash in on the winger in the summer should he not sign a new deal, or risk losing him for a free the following year.
