Welsh international fly-half Rhys Priestland has been linked with a short move from Bath to Gallagher Premiership rivals Bristol Bears this week.

It has already been confirmed that Priestland, 32, will be leaving Bath at the end of the season.

Gloucestershire Live reported the 50 cap Wales international, who last ran out for his country against the All Blacks in 2017, could follow in the footsteps of England international second row Dave Attwood in making the short journey from Bath to Bristol.

Priestland joined Bath four years ago from Welsh Pro14 side the Scarlets in 2015 and has also been linked with a return to the region.

Bath are reported to be interested in bringing in South African international Handre Pollard or former New Zealand number 10 Aaron Cruden.

In January, Priestland said: "Come May, I haven't got a job. I haven't got a clue what's going to happen with me next year.”

Bristol Live can confirm that despite recent reports Pat Lam has no intention of adding Priestland to his squad ahead of next season.

Bristol are well stocked at fly half with former Ireland international Ian Madigan still with a year left on his contract and the impressive Callum Sheedy, 23, looking every bit a Premiership fly-half this season.

Sheedy could even finish the season as the club's first choice fly half.

While coming through the ranks the club have the likes of Welsh Under-18s international Ioan Lloyd who has just signed a four year contract with the club while still at Clifton College.

When his new deal was announced Bristol academy manager Mike Hall said: “Ioan is an exciting talent who perfectly fits the club’s long-term plan and vision for homegrown players.

“He has already had a taste of the senior set-up, both in training and on matchdays and we are delighted to have signed him on a four-year contract."

Tiff Eden and Sam Bedlow also provide Lam with further options at fly half.
