After plenty of anticipation, Bristol's newest pub has officially opened its doors and it would be safe to say the excitement was justified.

The imposing Compressor Building at Finzels Reach has been transformed into a brewpub headed up by top Bristol brewery Left Handed Giant, with food being served by Mission Pizza.

The huge industrial site, which overlooks the Floating Harbour and Castle Park with an open front, is part of the rich brewing history at Finzels Reach, which was most recently home to Courage until 2000.

With the doors now officially open to the new venue and more arrivals on the way at Finzels Reach - including Channel 4 - the area is likely to become one of the city's most thriving hotspots.

What's on offer?

There's a wide range of beers on offer, most of which are brewed by Left Handed Giant, of course.

The menu is broken up into stouts, sours, pale ales, lagers, ciders and cocktails, with beer being served in either half, 1/3 or 2/3 measurements.

Most of LHG's most popular beers can be ordered including the 4% pale ale On & On and one of their most recent creations, Alphonso the Passionate Mangoose, a sour specially made for Bristol Craft Beer Festival.

Products on offer from other breweries include Deya Brewing Company's Into The Haze pale ale and Boon's Lambic Foeder sour.

Free beer was handed out at the launch night

On average it will set you back around £3.60 for a 2/3, which is pretty reasonable considering the quality of beer.

The two cocktails on offer are the Grapefruit Spritzer from Danish company Mikropolis for £5.95 and a fusion between LHG and Bristol Distilling Company for £4.75.

'A mixture of extreme pride and a sense of relief'

Left Handed Giant founder Bruce Gray told Bristol Live he was delighted with how the launch went.

He said: "Two years after first walking into the building, one year after promising our Crowdcube investors and the people of Bristol we'd create a destination venue in the heart of Bristol it was with a mixture of extreme pride and a sense of relief to finally open the doors to the public.

"The response has been huge, it's just so lovely to finally have people in enjoying the place we've worked so hard to create.

"Thanks has to go to our incredible team who have worked themselves into the ground to make this happen, and to our investors who saw and believed in our vision and put their trust in us to turn it into a reality.

How was the project funded?

After spotting the building's potential, Left Handed Giant set its sights on moving in and then launched an ambitious Crowdcube campaign to help make the dream a reality - and it would be fair to say it went pretty well.

After launching the campaign in February 2018 the brewery quickly reached its initial funding target of £450,000, before going on to raise a whopping £1million to create the new brewpub.
