Bristol is home to some truly unique restaurants and Matter Fastfoods is a shining example of this.

As the only organic and plant-based fish and chip shop in the UK, the Fishponds Road takeaway has built up a loyal customer base since opening early in 2017 - but unless something drastic happens it will not be around for much longer.

Back in November its owners announced they had put it up for sale, much to the dismay of the city's vegan community, and urged those people who had always said they wanted to visit but never had to show support.

Now, four months on from the plea, the owners have provided an update, informing people there is good news and bad news.

The good news, they say on Facebook, is they will remain open for around another three months while the lease is sorted out for the new owners.

However, the bad news comes when they say 'unless anything changes, we are stepping away in they months, and that will be the end of the only organic and vegan chippy in the country'.

The statement continues: "We have had and are still having a great time doing this, and look forward to seeing all our regulars and meeting all the people who have been meaning to come for ages.

"See you tonight hopefully!"

From that, it sounds like the unique chippie will be the latest departure from the city's food scene unless there is a major increase in its takings over the coming months.

It is encouraging, however, that there is still three months to sample the many treats on its diverse menu, with favourites including its tofish and chips made from organic spuds.
