One of Bristol's most popular outdoor markets has announced when it will return.

The Tobacco Factory's Sunday market attracts people from all over the city with its array of street food and independent traders.

In March the market, which takes place in the car park of the multi-use venue on North Street, was cancelled for the foreseeable future due to Covid-19.

But now, with the government beginning to ease lockdown restrictions, the Tobacco Factory has announced its plans to relaunch the weekly event with social distancing measures in place.

The first Sunday market took place in 2004

Boris Johnson announced markets across the UK can resume from next week - but it will be a little longer before people can return to the south Bristol market.

Sarah Ford, managing director of Tobacco Factory Enterprises, said: "Our Sunday Markets are to re-commence from Sunday, July 5 starting with food stalls.

"It's set to be reduced in the number of traders in order to allow for appropriate social distancing.

"We’re very much looking forward to being able to welcome our traders and customers back."

The indoor Makers Market, which opened in place of the Thali Cafe in December, is still running with a limited number of people still using the space as their workshop.

Tobacco Factory’s very own Five Acre Farm shop is also continuing trading throughout the period of closure with a delivery and collection service.

George Ferguson, who owns the building, said the team behind it will be using June to "plan and adapt" to work out how the market will work logistically when it returns in July.

He said this could see an "expanded outside bar and seating area".
