BroadwayWorld's Top Christmas Picks For Glasgow Theatre

It's the most wonderful time of the year...! With almost too many festive productions to choose from, how do you decide where to spend your hard-earned cash?

BroadwayWorld reviewer Natalie O'Donoghue has selected her top five picks in Glasgow this Christmas - from musicals and panto to comedy.

The Bodyguard

It's beginning to look a lot like Whit-mas! A Secret Service agent is employed to protect global superstar Rachel Marron from a stalker. Featuring the songs of Whitney Houston, this love story makes for the perfect night out this Christmas. Starring Alexandra Burke, The Bodyguard runs at the Theatre Royal, Glasgow 3-29 December.

Mammy Goose

This year's panto at the Tron Theatre is Mammy Goose by Johnny McKnight. With regulars such as Darren Brownlie, Julie Wilson Nimmo and Lauren Ellis Steele returning, this is a panto that relies on talent rather than 'celebrity' stunt casting. With big song and dance numbers, amazing set designs and sharp, witty scripts, it is always a highlight of my theatre-going year! Mammy Goose runs 27 November-5 January, 2019.

A Christmas Carol

If you're looking for a Christmas show with a bit of a difference, Citizens Theatre have brought their 2014 production of A Christmas Carol back to Tramway. Expect spellbinding storytelling, live music and stunning sets. Sticking with their affordable pricing ethos and offering 750 primary children 50p tickets for the run - I'd advise not holding off to buy tickets! A Christmas Carol runs at Tramway 4 December-6 January, 2019 with a relaxed performance on 13 December.

Six

If you've had any awareness of exciting new musicals over the past few months then Six will definitely be on your radar. After a hugely successful run at this year's Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Six went on to have a limited run at London's Arts Theatre before heading out on this UK tour. It's back in the West End again from January to May. Six runs at the SEC Glasgow 20-30 December.

The Stand

The best comedy club in all the land has got a cracking line-up for the month of December. I'm especially excited to take my seven-year-old pal along to his first comedy show on the 9th for the Kids Comedy Club Christmas Special. All of their shows throughout the month feature top talent for very reasonable prices.
