BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – The mayor’s office is giving local youth a chance to do something fun this summer.
The 2020 Mayor’s Youth Workforce Experience is setting out to give around 500 kids a chance to experience what it is like to have a job.
“The summer cohort will serve up to 500 youth through an 8-week virtual program and local job placements,” according to the mayor’s office.
Did I mention there is a stipend?
If you take part in the virtual program, you could get up to $600.
“At the start of 2020, I set a bold goal to serve 1,000 youth through our workforce development initiatives. COVID-19 has demanded that we reimagine how to achieve that goal with the absence of in-person programming,” said Mayor Broome. “Our partners committed to designing a robust digital experience that not only monetarily incentivizes high school students but also creates a foundation of skills that will prepare them for the workforce and beyond.”

All applications are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, June 8.
If you can take part this summer, don’t worry, “the program will continue to release youth work opportunities throughout the year,” according to the mayor’s office.
