BATON ROUGE, La. (WDSU) — Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin said an emergency election plan is being worked on during the coronavirus pandemic.
This is in response to a letter sent to Ardoin from New Orleans State Rep. Royce Duplessis.
Duplessis expressed concerns about the process.
Ardoin said the plan will be similar to the state’s July and August election plan, which would extend early voting and mail-in balloting periods.
He said one of the biggest hurdles they face is how his office and the U.S. Postal Service are able to handle mail-in ballots.
“We had problems in July,” Ardoin said. “We’re working now with the postal service to iron those things out and figure what deadlines are important for voters to make sure their ballots are counted should they utilize the absentee voter program.”
This was not the only issue reported with mail-in voting.
He said it will not happen again.
