The Knock, Knock Children’s Museum has only been open for two years but is already changing the lives of children across the capital city.
“It is really uniquely Baton Rouge” said Executive Director Peter Claffey. “This is very focused on our community and that’s one of the things that makes us a great museum” he said.
Having just celebrated their second birthday in Baton Rouge, Claffey says he’s excited about everything they’re able to offer a wide range of children.
“For kids who learn a lot by reading and doing books it’s a great place to reinforce what the’ve learned and will continue to learn” said Claffey. “Whether they’re in the Go-Go Garage and they’re working on being a mechanic and checking off the list, they’re learning what that job really entails… our Art Garden where kids get hands on and do different art projects; every month has a theme, and then our Makes Shop every month has a theme as well and we have a lot of collaborative work that we can do” Claffey explained.
The Knock, Knock Children’s Museum caters to children up to eight years old, but there’s really no age limit on the learning experience at one of Baton Rouge’s most unique museums.
“As kids learn through play, we try to bring the experience to something they’ve learned in their everyday life and we can build upon it while they’re here at Knock Knock seeing the museum” Claffey said.
