Montpelier Exempted Village Schools Superintendent Jamie Grime is contracted to remain with the district for another five years, following approval of his contract extension at the school board’s February meeting.
For 11 years, Grime has been at the helm of Williams County’s second biggest school district in terms of student population. He expressed his gratitude for the move.
“I think by now people know I’m dedicated to the district,” said Grime. “I think we’ve come a long way in 11 years and have a long way to go.”
When asked about some of the areas of focus for him moving forward, he placed an emphasis on building Montpelier’s course offerings, as the district has done this year with reintroducing shop class, with a home maintenance and manufacturing skills emphasis, to name just one example.
“I think right now we’re still in the process of getting more course offerings to prepare kids for jobs in the future,” said Grime. “Hammering away on academics, improving and getting better.”
Prior to arriving at Montpelier Exempted Village Schools in 2001, Grime served as an elementary school principal in Delta and served as first grade, second grade and fifth grade teacher before that.
In other business, the board:
• Accepted donations including $40 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church to the cafeteria; $200 from CK Technologies to the robotics program; $200 from the Williams County Dairy Association to the Consumer Education/Life Skills program; $500 from Chase Brass to the girls basketball team; $500 from Chase Brass to the wrestling team; $500 from Chase Brass to the cheerleading squad; $1,889.88 from Millers Pump It UP to the high school; and $2,500 from the Montpelier Area Foundation to the Montpelier Academic Banquet.
• Approved Wes Rickenberg as a volunteer high school basketball coach, Brooke Moore as volunteer high school softball coach and Alex Kirkingburg as volunteer track coach.
• Approved an increase of $82,444.58 in the contracted amount for Northwest Ohio Educational Service Center for fiscal year 2019 services, bringing the contract total to $501,607.06. Grime indicated that the district adjusts its contract mid-year annually to account for new and leaving students, service needs and other factors.
• Went into executive session to discuss employment matters, with no action taken upon its completion, according to Grime.
