Waterfowl hunters are reminded that they are prohibited from shooting ducks and geese from the shores surrounding Lake Champlain, following recent reports to Burlington police.

"It's unlawful and it unnerves people in nearby homes, who don't have the assurance that someone is always aiming over the water," Burlington police wrote in a Twitter post on Saturday.

While hunting is governed by state law, and therefore not regulated by the city of Burlington, discharge of firearms within city limits is prohibited.

From now until the early weeks of November, it is prime hunting season for most waterfowl around Lake Champlain.
