A construction worker directs traffic on King Street as a backhoe operates on St. Paul Street June 11, 2019.

Correction: The Burlington Department of Public Works is only burying utility lines under St. Paul Street. An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the nature of the work.

Bicyclist, walkers and drivers could see travel delays this summer as construction will continue throughout the Queen City.

The city plans to tackle an "aggressive" number of projects as part of Burlington's reinvestment into infrastructure this summer and 2019, Burlington Public Works Director Chapin Spencer said.

"We are not going to settle for band aids, we're going to do our work right and from the ground up," he said.

Projects to watch out for this summer

Project: St. Paul Street - Great Streets program

When: The project should be completed by late August to early September 2019. Currently, the road is closed, but the sidewalks and business remain open.

What: The project includes wider sidewalks, more bike racks and other improvements to the pedestrian pathways. Underneath, the city will be burying utility lines, Spencer said.

Construction on St. Paul Street in Burlington, VT, is expected to wrap up late summer 2019. In the mean time, the road is closed but the sidewalks and businesses are open.

Project: City Hall Park

When: Construction on the park will start mid July.

What: The project is a complete redesign of the space and includes accessible pathways.

Project: Pine Street and Flynn Avenue water system upgrade

When: Starting next week the intersection at Flynn Avenue and Pine Street will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Because that area is highly traveled the city determined the best time to do the work would be at night, Spencer said.

What: Crews will work to replace a portion of the water system.

Project: Crosswalks on North Avenue

Construction workers working on a portion of St Paul Street in Burlington, VT, on June 11, 2019.

When: Throughout the summer

What: The new crosswalks will have flashing lights that alert drivers that someone is about to cross the street. They will be installed at Ward Street, Killarney Drive/Village Green Drive, Poirier Place, Gosse Court and Green Acres Drive/Cayuga Court.
