At a town hall meeting Monday, U.S. Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT) will detail his support for President Trump's impeachment and seek feedback from the public.

Welch openly denounced the president in a news release issued July 18. He spoke with reporters the same day to discuss his call for impeachment. Welch said he wanted Vermonters to know his position on how Trump is conducting his presidency.

In both the news release and the media phone call, Welch addressed his qualms with the president, which include:

  • Trump's interactions with Congress and his handling of the Mueller investigation.
  • His treatment of Americans on the basis of sex, religion and other markers.
  • His relationship with the press, which Trump "demeans, attacks and discredits," according to Welch's news release.

Welch and 94 other members of the U.S. House of Representatives voted against tabling impeachment proceedings based on articles filed by Rep. Al Green (D-TX) last week. Welch and others were countered by 332 members of congress who voted to table the measure.
