Snow developing overnight Wednesday, Jan. 15 may make the next day's morning commute tricky in Vermont, according to the National Weather Service in Burlington.

Most of the state will be under a winter weather advisory beginning at 11 p.m. Wednesday until 7 p.m. Thursday, as of Wednesday morning's forecast. Parts of northern Vermont, including some towns outside of Burlington in Chittenden County, will be under a winter storm warning for the same period, the service said in its alert.

Those under the advisory are expected to see between 3 and 6 inches of snow, while those under the winter storm warning could see 6 to 10 inches. In Burlington, 4 to 6 inches are expected to fall, the National Weather Service said.

Towns expected to see higher snow accumulation include Newport, Johnson, Stowe, Enosburg Falls, Richford, Underhill, and St. Albans.

In the Burlington area, snow is expected to be moderate at times on the morning of Jan. 16 and taper off in the afternoon.

"Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility and cause drifting snow on Thursday," the advisory said.

The National Weather Service advised drivers to slow down, use caution, and leave extra time to arrive safely at a destination.
