Vermont National Guard to resume activity at Camp Ethan Allen on June 1

JERICHO, Vt.— The hills are about to get much louder.

After an extended break due to construction and the coronavirus pandemic, the Camp Ethan Allen Training Site will be fully operational for the summer beginning June 1, the Vermont National Guard announced Friday.

“Our deployments have not been impacted by COVID-19 and we need to be ready,” said Lt. Col. Matt Wignall, a battalion commander with the Vermont Army National Guard. “Hundreds of our Vermonters are set to deploy starting in January, and we need to make we are ready for our missions."

Ordinarily, training could have occurred at Ford Drum in upstate New York. But that location's mandatory two-week quarantine period for National Guard units due to COVID-19 has forced the Vermont units to compress their timeline to be ready for deployment in 2021.

The updated schedule — outlined below — runs from June 1 through Aug. 31.

"There’s going to be a few more late nights and some additional weekday firing. I encourage anyone that has questions to call for clarity,” Col. Eric Gagnon said in a statement.
