Wednesday's H.S. highlights: Third-period surge lifts Burlington-Colchester

Four unanswered goals in the third period allowed Burlington-Colchester to break free for a 6-2 win over Woodstock in high school girls hockey at Leddy Park on Wednesday.

Sammie Yates equalized for the Wasps (1-1) early in the third period before the SeaLakers (1-0) seized control.

Six players found the back of the net for Burlington-Colchester. Mershon Sky, Olivia Maher, McKenna Weston and Meg Lehouiller each had a goal and an assist. Victoria Creammer and Ruby Wool had solo tallies and Madison Chagnon logged two assists.

Ally Peeters had 14 stops for the hosts. Bridgit Black made 42 saves for Woodstock.

Middlebury 9, Brattleboro 1: Aleta Mathers and Carlisle Brush each had two goals and an assist as visiting Middlebury opened its season with a lopsided win over Brattleboro.

Audrey Tembreull also had two goals for the Tigers, while Taylor Moulton provided a goal and four assists. Merry Kimble (two assists) and Audrey Schnoor (assist) also scored, and Lydia Deppman made four saves. 

Liz Day had the goal for the Colonels.

North Country-Lyndon 7, Hartford 1: Skylar Robert's hat trick powered host North Country-Lyndon to a big win over Hartford.

Harwood-Northfield 7, Spaulding 1: Ahead 6-0 after two stanzas, Harwood-Northfield had little trouble dispatching host Spaulding.

Lilianna Ziedins, April Tousignant and Kailie French scored two goals apiece for Harwood-Northfield. 

Amanda Gerrish had the lone goal for the Crimson Tide. 

Boys hockey

Missisquoi 3, Colchester 0: Hunter Mason struck for a pair of goals, including an empty-netter, as host Missisquoi blanked Colchester.

Braylen Parent provided a goal and two assists for Missisquoi, which got single helpers from Charlie Gates and Kyle Gilbert.

PJ Bouchard turned in a 23-save shutout for the Thunderbirds. Sam Fath had 25 stops for the Lakers. 

Milton 3, Lyndon 0: Cam Barnier's short-handed tally got host Milton on the board midway through the second period and it never looked back in a shutout win over Lyndon.

Jim Campbell and Jaxon Schaarschmidt padded the Yellowjackets' lead, Cooper Goodrich adn Zach Kay logged assists, and Jack Ehler had 15 saves.

Sawyer Goodwin turned away nine shots for the Vikings.

St. Johnsbury 10, U-32 4: An eight-goal first-period explosion sprang visiting St. Johnsbury to a rout of U-32. 

Greggor Vogel pumped in four goals and an assist to lead the Hilltoppers. Jeremy Reardon tossed in two markers.

Girls basketball

Lake Region 63, BFA-Fairfax 45: Host Lake Region cruised to a 43-12 halftime lead en route to a win over BFA-Fairfax. 

Tia Martinez had 21 points to lead the Rangers and Robin Nelson chipped in 12.

Ali Irish had a game-high 23 points for the Bullets, who got eight points and seven rebounds from Faith Orton. 

Boys basketball

U-32 83, Montpelier 66: Jordan Hawkins poured in 40 points and host U-32 knocked off rival Montpelier.

Hawkins went 10-for-13 at the line and also recorded six rebounds and six assists for the 1-0 Raiders, who lead 37-22 at the half.

Owen Kellington sank three 3s for nine points and also grabbed six rebounds and Alec Lemieux also scored nine points, all coming in the fourth quarter, to aid U-32’s attack.

For Montpelier, Leo Riby Williams scored 19 of his team-high 21 points in the second half, while Tyler Ricker (18) and David Ackerson (11) also hit double digits.

Williamstown 62, Hartford 32: Tyler Orton scored 16 points and Jacob Tassie tallied 10 to lead Williamstown over host Hartford.
