Vermont H.S. boys basketball: Rutland's Jamison Evans named Gatorade player of the year
Rutland High School senior Jamison Evans has been named Vermont's boys basketball player of the year, Gatorade announced Friday.
The dynamic, two-way star, who recently committed to Division II Lynn University and surpassed the career 1,000-point mark, is the first Rutland player to earn the honor. The award recognizes not athletic excellence as well as high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
The 6-foot-3, 165-pound guard/forward has fueled the Raiders' 19-4 run back to the Division I state championship game.
At the time of his selection, Evans was averaging 23.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game this winter. He was a Burlington Free Press first-team all-state pick as a junior last season.

“Jamison Evans is a special player,” Burr and Burton coach Eric Green said in a news release. “He’s very well-rounded — a great shooter, strong to the rim, runs the floor well, and he’s an above-average defender.”
Evans has a B-average in the classroom and has volunteered locally as an athlete partner for a Special Olympics Unified Sports team and with other youth basketball programs.
Evans and his Rutland Raiders face St. Johnsbury on Sunday afternoon seeking their third straight state title.
