Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week: Winners for Feb. 3-9

The votes have been tallied and the winners of the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week honors are ... Caitlyn Dasaro of BFA-St. Albans girls basketball and Rex Rubinstein of Harwood boys alpine skiing.

Dasaro collected nearly half of all votes cast (48.63 percent) to top the field in the girls contest. Rubinstein prevailed in the boys field by garnering a 33.81 percent share of the votes in a balanced contest. 

The online voting at BurlingtonFreePress.com began Feb. 11 and closed at midnight on Feb. 14.

Caitlyn Dasaro, BFA-St. Albans basketball: After tallying a game-high 14 points to help the Comets hold off South Burlington in overtime, the sophomore Dasaro struck for 14 of her game-best 22 points in the second half in the statement victory over Rice. The win gave BFA a regular-season split with the Green Knights.

Rex Rubinstein, Harwood alpine skiing: Captured the Harwood-hosted event with a 58.91-second combined time in the dual-paneled slalom race held in Fayston. Rubinstein set a quick pace on his opening run (28.83).
