UK-based luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) won a rare intellectual-property court victory last month over a Chinese rival that was making a copycat model — but the fight isn’t over. The defendant is appealing, Caixin has learned.
Jiangling Motors was found guilty of copying JLR’s Evoque SUV, with its strikingly similar Landwind X7. The court demanded Jiangling stop manufacturing the Landwind X7 and pay JLR 1.5 million yuan ($223,437) as compensation. Jiangling Motors was also required to issue a public statement explaining what it had done.
A source said the court Jiangling is appealed to is an intellectual property court in Beijing, but didn’t provide other details.
