Armed police rushed to a Cambridge street this morning, February 18, after reports of a man attacking a woman with a fake gun.

Officers responded to the scene in French's Road after it was reported at around 10am and found the imitation firearm.

A woman in her 30s was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with minor injuries.

Police are appealing for information following the incident, which occurred near St Luke's C of E Primary School.

One witness told Cambridgeshire Live: "There were loads of police down the back of St Luke's School. It looked like something had gone down in the alley. There was blood everywhere."

The witness also reported seeing a man in a balaclava with a 'gun'.

The witness claimed that they saw white powder strewn on the ground and blood 'all over the place'.

A police spokesman said: "At about 10am a man was reportedly seen assaulting a woman whilst in possession of an imitation firearm.

"Armed police attended and recovered the firearm from the scene. 

"A woman in her 30s has been taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with minor injuries. 

"An investigation is ongoing and anyone who has seen a blue BMW 520D in the Victoria Road area of Cambridge is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident 121 of 18 February.
