A number of emergency service vehicles have been spotted at the Biomedical campus near the new Astra Zeneca building.

A witness said he saw, police, fire and incident response units near its new headquarters this afternoon (March 19).

Those working on the construction of the pharmaceutical company building have also been evacuated, according to the witness.

A spokeswoman for AstraZeneca said: "I am here now and can confirm that there was an evacuation.

"The evacuation was due to a minor incidient. The fire service were called but have now left.

"The project director within health and safety has confirmed it has all been dealt with and is finished now."

AstraZeneca plc is a British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company.

In 2013, it moved its headquarters to Cambridge.

The move to its new Cambridge HQ is expected to take place in 2020.

In August last year it was announced the move will be delayed due to problems with the roof and water egress.

Cambridgeshire police have confirmed there was a fire.

Crews are leaving the scene

A spokeswoman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said: “ Firefighters have made the area safe and we’re now scaling back. Crews are leaving the scene as we speak.”
