A large police presence was spotted in a residential road in Wisbech yesterday afternoon (March 12).

Officers were responding to reports of a disorder in Prospect Place, Wisbech, just before 4pm.

Prospect Place, located just off Milner Road, is a residential area home to multiple blocks of flats and bungalows. The road was cordoned off by police, and no one was able to enter or leave the premises.

People who live in a block of flats down the road were evacuated from their homes while the explosive ordnance disposal team searched a property.

A photo of the police presence was posted into a local Facebook group to inform people in the area that the road was shut.

Members of the residential group commented that they could see bomb disposal officers on scene.

A spokesman from Cambridgeshire constabulary said: “A 55-year-old man from Wisbech has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm following reports of a disorder in Prospect Place, Wisbech, at about 3.45pm yesterday afternoon. 

“Residents in a block of flats in Prospect Place were evacuated while EOD searched the premises. It was found to be safe and a cordon was lifted a few hours later. 

“The man remains in custody at this time.”
