We all know Cambridgeshire is teeming with bright, talented and gifted people.

And while we're aware that stars like Stephen Fry and Emma Thompson rose to fame after their time at Cambridge University, there are plenty of famous faces who were born and raised here too.

From Olympians to global superstars, there are a whole host of celebs you might not have known are from Cambridgeshire.

We've put together a list of some of the biggest names from Cambridgeshire that might surprise you.

Aston Merrygold

Singer Aston Merrygold

Singer, dancer and all-round TV personality, Aston Merrygold, was born and raised in Peterborough.

Along with his three other bandmates, JLS were runners up on the fifth series of The X Factor in 2008.

After five years of success, the band split up, but Aston continued to stay in the limelight.

He went on to become a judge on the British dance talent show, Got to Dance, and took part in the fifteenth series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Louis smith

Gymnast Louis Smith

Olympic medallist, Louis Smith, was born and bred in Peterborough.

The gymnast came away with a medal at the 2008 Beijling Olympics, 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics - with two bronze and two silver in total.

In 2012, he was appointed MBE for services to gymnastics.

You may also know the star from Strictly Come Dancing, as he won the tenth series back in 2012.

Olivia Newton-John

Taking on the role of Sandy in Grease , Olivia Newton-John is known as the all singing, all dancing, black catsuit-wearing musical superstar.

But that's not all she achieved, the English-Australian singer and actress went on to win four Grammy awards and has sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide.

She received an OBE in 1979.

Charli XCX

Singer Charli XCX

Singer Charlie XCX was born in Cambridge in 1992.

The musician first rose to fame with the song "I Love It", a collaboration with Icona Pop.

She's also known for her solo hits "Boom Clap" and "Boys".

Jake Humphrey

Television presenter Jake Humphrey

Television presenter and journalist, Jake Humphrey, was born in Peterborough.

After moving away from the city when he was six years old, Jake went on to become a sport presenter, working on shows including Football Focus, Match of the Day and Final Score.

He has also worked for the BBC to present the Olympics, Commonwealth Games and Formula One, among others.

Warwick Davis

Warwick Davis

Now living in Peterborough, Warwick Davis has worked as an actor, writer, producer and comedian, among others.

At 3ft 6", Warwick has starred in the Harry Potter and Star Wars films.

He currently presents the ITV games show Tenable .

Joseph Valente

Winner of The Apprentice 2015, Joseph Valente

Born in Peterborough, Joseph Valente became known after appearing on the 2015 series of The Apprentice.

The budding entrepreneur succeeded in impressing Lord Sugar and won the show.

Now the managing director of Impra Gas, he is a successful businessman as well as TV star.

He's also author of the Expelled from the Classroom to Billionaire Boadroom and made it onto Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Guy Pearce

Actor Guy Pearce

Born in Ely in 1967, Guy Pearce moved to Australia when he was three years old, where he went on to play Mike Young in popular soap Neighbours.

The actor is also known for his work on The King's Speech, Prometheus and Iron Man 3.

Lauren Steadman

British Paralympic athlete Lauren Steadman was born in Peterborough.

She has competed in three Summer Paralympics including the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing and 2012 Summer Paralympics in London as a swimmer.

At the 2016 Summer Paralmpics in Rio we switched to the paratriatholn and won a silver medal in the Women's PT4.

Last year she appeared on Strictly Come Dancing , where she and dance partner SAJ Pritchard made it to the Semi-final.

Richard Attenborough

Richard Attenborough

Born in Cambridge in 1923, many would know Richard Attenborough best for his role in Jurassic Park.

As well as an actor and the brother of David Attenborough, he was producer and director.

He died in 2014, aged 90.

David Attenborough was born three years later in Isleworth, Middlesex.

He then went on to study natural sciences at Clare College, Cambridge.

Matt Bellamy

Matt Bellamy

Muse frontman, Matt Bellamy, was born in Cambridge .

Matt is known for his huge range of musical talents as a singer, guitarist and pianist.

He is also the primary songwriter of the rock band.
