There's been a lot of speculation over whether it would snow in January, but forecasters say today is the day.

Weather experts say the UK will be hit by a snow bomb today (January 29), coming from the west into the east by this evening.

The Met Office has warned that rural communities would be hit worse, with the possibility of some even losing power for a short time.

Blizzards and freezing temperatures are apparently on the menu for tonight, and could cause mayhem for the commute tomorrow.

There's also a yellow weather warning from the Met Office for the region, which extends down to London, so if you commute into the capital you might want to keep an eye on the trains.

Wednesday morning (January 30) could end up being chaos with over an inch of snow forecast overnight, with ice also a significant risk with the temperature drop tomorrow morning.

Snow is expected from 8pm tonight until 10pm, but temperatures on Wednesday morning will remain below freezing until 11am, so any snow that does fall could hang around for most of the morning.

Here's when and where the snow will fall in the county tonight:

Bedford

Snow day fun in Cambridgeshire

First in line for snow are the west and north-west parts of the county.

The snow cloud is moving across the country from the west to the east, so Bedford is the one of the first places to be hit.

Snow is expected for this part of the county between 7pm and 8pm tonight, but will have passed over the city and surrounding areas by 11pm.

Heavy rain is coming before the snow, and will pass straight over Bedford before 5pm.

Temperatures aren't dropping too much, staying around 2C for most of the evening, before falling tomorrow morning.

Woburn, Ampthill, Sheford, and Sandy

With snow moving south east across the county, Woburn, Ampthill, Sheford, and Sandy are next in line, and should also expect snow somewhere between 7pm and 8pm.

As with Bedford, heavy rain is coming first, and temperatures are staying around 2C tonight, but dropping below freezing around 5am on Wednesday.

Luton and Dunstable

Rain followed by heavy snow is coming to Luton, Dunstable and surrounding areas somewhere between 8pm and 9pm tonight.

Heavy rain starting around 5pm will have turned into snow by 9pm and will hang around for a few hours.

It's going to be a slightly colder staying around 1C this evening, but is dropping to -1C by 6am tomorrow morning.
